Frequently asked questions
What is SOJOURN SCHOLARS, exactly?
Concretely, SOJOURN is a collaboration of mutual aid & scholarship. We are beginning with a series of mini-scholarships that will go towards a Black/African-American Student as they travel internationally. Scholarships will be $1,000 each to help supplement any program/travel costs.
Ambitiously, Sojourn hopes to be the resource we all needed as we tried to study abroad-- a hub dedicated to Black/African- American students as we navigate the study abroad process.
Is SOJOURN only for Black people /African Americans?
Yes!
Countless barriers impact the Black community as lasting impacts of slavery. Sojourn works to fill part of that gap, on behalf of community.
We love our diaspora and welcome all Black people to join our base of sojourn scholars. At this time, scholarship priority is to Black Americans/descendants of enslaved people in North America.
How do you define scholarship? Where does the money come from?
SOJOURN Scholarships are an investment from the community into ourselves.
As an extension of mutual aid practice, everyone (yes, you) are encouraged to donate what you can towards the Sojourn Scholars Community Fund. Once we (yes, we) raise $1,000 it will be given to a Black Scholar for them to use as they travel abroad.
